Meeting Between REA and the Municipality of Rethymno on the Future of the Team and Sports Infrastructure

A meeting took place between the Deputy Mayor for Sports of the Municipality of Rethymno, Mr. Nikos Proviás, and the President of A.O. REA, Mr. Iraklis Manoukarakis. During the meeting, they discussed both the recent public announcement of Mr. Manoukarakis’ decision not to register the team in the Women’s First Division Football League for the upcoming season, as well as issues concerning the city’s sports infrastructure.

During the discussion, Mr. Proviás called on the president of REA to reconsider his decision, emphasizing the team’s significant contribution to promoting Rethymno and women’s football. As he pointed out, REA is a reference point for the city’s sports community and can continue to make the region proud, noting characteristically that “all of Rethymno is paREA (together with REA).”

At the same time, the Deputy Mayor for Sports informed Mr. Manoukarakis about the Municipality of Rethymno’s plan regarding the renovation of the Gallos Municipal Stadium, a project expected to be completed in October. Once the works are finished, the stadium will become REA’s new football “home.”

The Municipality of Rethymno, investing hundreds of thousands of euros, is moving forward with the creation of a modern and fully renovated stadium that meets the requirements of the First Division, clearly demonstrating its support for the development of women’s football.

This development is particularly positive news for the club, as it fulfills an important part of the vision of the people of REA regarding sports facilities. At the same time, REA expects the institutional bodies of women’s football to proceed with the necessary organizational reforms for the meaningful development of the sport, so that the committed stakeholders who invest in it can be properly supported and encouraged.

A.O. REA warmly thanks the Municipality of Rethymno and the Mayor, Giorgis Marinakis, and especially the Deputy Mayor for Sports, Mr. Nikos Proviás, for the support and interest he shows in the development of women’s football.
