REA
concluded its run in the Women’s Greek Cup, suffering elimination in the second
leg of the quarter-finals after a 5–0 away defeat to Asteras Tripolis.
The match
got off to the worst possible start for Stelios Kozanidis’ side, as a penalty
was awarded to the hosts in the opening minute. English saved Gkatsou’s initial
spot kick, but the same player reacted quickest to the rebound to make it 1–0
in the 2nd minute. Despite the early setback, REA tried to respond and created
a few promising moments, without however managing to find the back of the net.
Asteras
capitalised on their efficiency and doubled their lead in the 32nd minute
through a header by Spiridonidou, before Tzaferi made it 3–0 in the 42nd minute
following a parallel pass from the same player, effectively shaping the outcome
of the first half.
In the
second half, the hosts maintained the same tempo and added two more goals. In
the 64th minute, Michail finished calmly after an assist from Spiridonidou to
make it 4–0, while in the 76th minute Spiridonidou herself sealed the final 5–0
scoreline, completing a day that fully belonged to Asteras Tripolis.
It should
also be noted that the match was played on a pitch in very poor condition at
the Panarkadikos Stadium, which significantly affected the efforts of both
teams and did not allow for the development of quality football, impacting the
tempo and smooth circulation of the ball.
Despite the
elimination, REA now leaves the Cup behind and turns its full attention to the
championship, aiming to continue its consistent course and achieve the
objectives set for the current season. The next destination will once again be
Tripoli, where the postponed match of the 13th league round will take place.
