Our team
controlled the game, created the chances, but it was the home side that
capitalized on their opportunities, scoring three times from as many attacks
and handing REA its first loss after three straight victories.
The opening
goal came in the 29th minute, after a prolonged scramble inside the box, when
Papakosta struck from close range to make it 1–0. REA threatened four times in
the first half through Bonnin, Situma, and Kapareli.
In the
second half, Stelios Kozanidis’ players pressed hard for an equalizer, but in a
counterattack, Georgakopoulou scored the goal of the match — a beautiful
curling effort from the edge of the box that hit the left post and went in for
2–0. Kanellou came close with a free kick, while in the 66th minute, Ruzafa was
denied in a one-on-one by Forliaka, missing the best chance to pull one back.
Five
minutes later, Parmegio made it 3–0 with an unstoppable header from another
counterattack, making REA’s task extremely difficult. Situma finally reduced
the deficit to 3–1 in the 82nd minute, and had another huge chance three
minutes later, but Forliaka’s crucial save ended REA’s hopes for a comeback.
REA will now regroup and face AEK on Saturday, October 18,
at the Episkopi Stadium for Matchday 5 of the Greek Women’s Super League — a
match that will be broadcast live on ERT.
