REA AT VAK, NARROWLY DEFEATED BY OFI IN THE SECOND HALF (1-0)
REA
delivered a determined performance at the Vardinogiannio Athletic Center but
eventually suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against OFI in the 19th round of the
Greek Women’s First Division. In a match with limited chances and strong
tactical elements, our team fought until the final minutes in search of an
equalizer, but was unable to find the goal that would earn them a point.
Both teams
appeared affected by the long break from competitive action, something that was
reflected in the overall tempo of the match. The first half produced very few
chances, with the 0-0 scoreline fully reflecting the balance of the game. REA
threatened first in the 9th minute when Nigito attempted a long-range shot that
went just wide. OFI responded in the 40th minute when Kydonaki found herself in
a good position inside the box, but Katergiannaki made a solid save. In
first-half stoppage time, Peace received the ball inside the area from a tight
angle but her shot hit the outside of the net.
The second
half maintained the same balanced rhythm until the decisive moment of the
match. In the 56th minute, Sulola delivered a cross from the right and
Panagiotou headed the ball into the net to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
After
conceding, REA pushed forward in search of an equalizer and came very close on
two occasions. In the 76th minute, Kelaidi attempted an impressive long-range
shot from around the halfway line, with the ball striking the junction of the
crossbar and post before Petaloti gathered it. In stoppage time (92’), Stelios
Kozanidis’ side nearly equalized with a huge double chance. Following a corner
by Kanellou, Nikopoulou was unable to direct the ball on target from very close
range, and moments later Renoux attempted a close-range finish from the right,
but the ball went into the side netting.
Despite the
defeat, REA showed a competitive spirit and fought until the final whistle. The
team now turns its focus to the next match, which will take place at Sochora,
where REA will host Kifisia for the 20th round of the championship.
