REA
suffered a 5-1 defeat to Asteras Rethymno U17 at Sohora Stadium in the team’s
third friendly match of the pre-season.
REA faced a
particularly difficult but also highly instructive test against Asteras
Rethymno U17, the reigning Youth League champions, as part of the team’s
preparations for the new season. Our team suffered a 5-1 defeat in a
high-intensity and demanding game, which gave head coach Gianna Douka the
opportunity to draw useful conclusions and give playing time to several
players.
In the
first half, REA was competitive, applied pressure and created opportunities to
find the back of the net. Asteras opened the scoring in the 9th minute through
Tsogas, while Ieronymakis doubled his team’s lead in the 40th minute.
REA,
however, continued to fight and managed to reduce the deficit in stoppage time.
Specifically, in the 45th+2 minute, Plakia unleashed a powerful shot from
outside the box, sending the ball into the net to make it 2-1.
In the
second half, our team continued to push forward, but Asteras took advantage of
the available space and counter-attacking opportunities to score three more
goals. Karabalios found the net in the 66th, 77th and 87th minutes, completing
the final 5-1 scoreline.
For Gianna
Douka, the friendly was another important opportunity to experiment, with the
coaching staff giving playing time to several players and assessing their
current competitive condition. Chau, Bonnin and Panteri were unavailable.
REA has now
completed the third week of pre-season and continues its preparations, with the
start of the official competitive season fast approaching. On September 20, our
team will begin its Greek Women’s A’ National Division campaign against Agia
Paraskevi.
